Personality Disorder Inpatient Treatment

Understanding Your Personality Disorder

Personality disorders manifest as persistent patterns of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral, resulting in notable distress and impairment across various aspects of life. They influence self-perception, interactions with others, and how someone navigates the world around them.

Types of Personality Disorders

Personality disorders are categorized into different clusters based on their symptoms and characteristics. Personalty disorders are broken into distinguished clusters.

Cluster A: Odd or Eccentric Behavior

Cluster A personality disorders are characterized by eccentric or unusual thinking and behavioral patterns. This includes:

  • Paranoid personality disorder: Often perceiving personal insults where there are more and being perpetually suspicious and distrustful of others.
  • Schizoid personality disorder: This is marked by a lack of interest in social interactions and emotional detachment, and low interest in relationships with others.
  • Schizotypal personality disorder: This disorder is marked by a consistent pattern of intense discomfort with social interactions and close relationships. It may also involve distorted views of reality and unusual behaviors.

Cluster B: Dramatic, Erratic, or Emotional Behavior

This cluster of personality disorders is associated with over-the-top, erratic, and over-emotional behavior. These include:

  • Borderline personality disorder (BPD): people struggling with BPD struggle with unstable self-image, impulsive and destructive behaviors, and an intense fear of abandonment.
  • Narcissistic personality disorder (NBP): is characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance, a lack of empathy for others, arrogant thinking and feeling, and an intense need for admiration.
  • Antisocial personality disorder: those with this disorder have little to no regard for the thoughts, feelings, or safety of others and often display manipulative and impulsive behaviors.
  • Histrionic personality disorder: a mental health condition that is characterized by unstable emotions, distorted self-image and an overwhelming need for attention. Those with this disorder often behave dramatically or inappropriately to get attention.

Cluster C: Anxious or Fearful Behavior

Cluster C personality disorders are characterized by anxious and fearful behavior. They can include the following personality disorders:

  • Avoidant personality disorder: this disorder is marked by poor self-esteem and an intense fear of rejection, and they often avoid social interactions to avoid these feelings.
  • Dependent personality disorder: people struggling with this disorder have an excessive need for others’ approval, low self-worth, and often rely on others to make decisions for them. People who have this personality disorder often struggle with anxiety as well.
