Impulse Control Disorder Treatment

Understanding Impulse Control Disorders

Nestled in the heart of Fort Myers, Prisma Recovery Center is more than just a facility. It’s a beacon of hope for individuals grappling with impulse control disorders and their families. Prisma offers a comprehensive approach to treatment that emphasizes not just recovery but durable and holistic healing. Impulse disorders affect not only the person struggling with the disorder but also their family. At Prisma, we know that we must address the root cause of disorders for treatment to be successful, and we extend resources to families as well.

What Are Impulse Control Disorders?

Impulse control disorders are characterized by the inability to resist impulses, even when the individual knows the behavior is harmful. This can manifest in a variety of ways. These disorders range from kleptomania and intermittent explosive disorder to pyromania and others. Impulse control disorders often lead to problems not only for the person with the disorder, but to others around them as well. Those struggling with impulse disorders can react in ways that are not anticipated to normal stimuli or scenarios

The Need for Inpatient Treatment

When Impulses Are More Than Habitual

For many, impulsive actions may seem like bad habits or poor choices, but when they become uncontrollable, they can wreak havoc on personal and professional lives. Inpatient treatment offers a structured environment where individuals with impulse control disorders can receive the intense therapy and support they need to achieve lasting recovery. Having the time in a controlled environment allows therapeutic measures to sink in and be utilized in a safe space.

The Environment at Prisma
